Celebrating Girls in Brass 2025 is an event designed to inspire girls ages 14-18 to develop as brass players and possibly pursue careers in music. A number of extremely accomplished women from the Calgary music scene will educate the participants about a variety of work as performing musicians, music teachers, composing and conducting. We aim to help the next generation of Calgarian musicians take the next step toward a career of their choosing by connecting them with the women who have paved the way.
The event includes informationalQ&A sessions (topics include: the audition process, private instruction options, instrument techniques, and the diversity of career path in music), masterclasses where students will receive feedback and tips to improve their playing, a special lecture about women in composition, and a large brass ensemble where participants will have the opportunity to play alongside our guest artists. Other activities include an open chamber rehearsal, where students will get to see how the pros put a piece together for public performance, and a concert where students will perform for friends and family alongside some of the finest women in brass.
